The Argentine Ant is an introduced species to New Zealand, and is common in Auckland. Mostly the Argentine Ant lives
outside and feeds on plants in the customers garden or has a symbiotic relationship with insects (scales) in the
customer's garden. The Argentine Ant will trail over obstacles put in its path. An example of this behaviour is if you put
finger down on or near a trail they will run up or over your finger. Their Ant trails are reasonable wide being 2-5 ants wide.
The Argentine Ant is brown with light brown bands around/going over its abdomen (see picture below) . The Argentine Ant has a
a noticable bite that leaves a red mark and some people can be allergic to this. They have been known to carry pathogens such as
taphylococcus , Candida , and Enterococcus. The Agrentine Ant may have multiple nests and mates within the nest. They do not
produce winged ants. The new queen takes some of the workers and moves to a near by location. Agrentine Ant nests may cooperate
together. The Argentine Ant mostly nest outside in trees, gardens and pot plants, it can also nest under houses as well.
Occasionally where the garden is next to a wall, they have been known to trail into walls and thereby the house. As the Argentine Ant
nests cooperate together and the have unlimited food source from ouside, they can quickly develop into a sizable problem for the customer.
Argentine Ants do not respond to Ant baits from the supermarket.
TREATMENT:An initial inspection is important to establish where the nest is. In some cases it may be
on a neigbouring property and can not be destroyed. If the Ant nest is assessable on the customers property
it can be destroyed immediately; and then a standard Aces Ant treatment for their house. If the nest is not accessable
of the customers property it should be baited using Extingish Ant bait. Extingish is the only Ant Bait that works on the
Argentine Ant. Once the baiting has taken place over a one to two week period the customers house can be treated with a standard
